The club has now come to the end of a most successful season.
TheTA." Team, which was captained by Mr. H. Morris, won the inter-club championship shield for the third year in succession. Five members of the team fired in all the Shield matches which also included the Hare Cup, and all finished within two points of one another, viz:—H. Morris 613, P. B. Ooldfinch 613, J. Ross 611, F. Kershaw (senr.) 611, and F. Ching 611. In the shoot off Morris defeated Goldfinch by
one point. ; , The B2 Team, captained by Mr. Warburton won the inter-club championship shield for the second year in succession. The team went right through the season ■without a loss.
The B2 Team, captained by Mr. H. Caldwell, were not quite so successful, They won four matches and lost four, but as most of them are first year shots they did very well.
The C Team, captained by Mr. H. V. Westbury, won the championship shield for the second year in succession. Last year was the first time the club entered a C Grade team, and they did very well "by going through the season without a loss. This year five out of the seven are new shots, and the team again completed the season without a loss.
The club entered two teams for the Osmond Shield, which was competed for on Wednesday, October 10th, the A Team winning by 13 points from the South Club. The scores were: —Hutt No. 1 681, South 668. This is the fourth time in succession that the club has won this shield. The following is a table of the matches fired this season: — A Grade. Matches Won Lost Drawn Pt. 9 8 1 - Q 16 * Won sliield by 4 points. B. 1 Team. t Matches Won Lost Drawn Pt. 8 8 0 0 16 Defeated Harbour Board in shoot off by 10 points. B 2 Team. > Matches Won Lost . Drawn Pt. 841 0 0 8 C. Team. Matches Won Lost Drawn Pt. 10 10 0 0 20 Won sliield by 6 points. A Lambert won the O Grade inter•club aggregate gold medal. The Hare Cup for the highest individrual score in the C Grade inter-club matches resulted in a tie. between A. Lambert, Bernard and Ballantyne. A. Lambert won the shoot off by one point. C. Lambert won the gold medal for the highest aggregate in the B Grade inter-club matches.
The Club Championship and "Wilford Cup was won by Mr P. E. Goldfinch for the second consecutive season. The club wishes to congratulate "Goldie" for his excellent, performance with the rifle throughout the championship. Messrs F. Ching and H. Morris tied for second place. In the shoot off M^r. Ching defeated Morris by three points. The following are the scores: —P. B. Goldfinch 1469, F. Ching 1459, H. Morris 1459, J. Ross 1458.
The B Grade championship was won by D. Haden, with F. Kershaw (junr), a, close second: — D. Haden 1445, P. Kershaw (junx) 1444.
Haden joined the club at the close I of last season and this is the first year he has competed in the championship.' He also won the Wellington B Grade championship on the 4th June last, and obtained third place in the N.Z. Championships.
The result of the Strand Chip for B Grade which includes handicaps is not yet to hand.
On Monday, October 15th the club fired a friendly match against the South Club in the range at Riverbank street. The South won by three points, the scores being South 803, Hut tBOO. Supper was provided for the visitors by the members of the Hutt Club, after which speeches were made' by the respective club captains, thus bringing to a close a most enjoyable evening.
The club wishes to thank all trophydonors for their kindness and generosity.
Next year we will have Mr. tO. M. Ching back in our ranks once more. "Ossie" Ching who we all know, went on a health trip to England some months ago, and is due back in Wellington about the middle of November. He will be welcomed back to the shooting -world with open arms. "Ossie" is one of Wellington's leading riflemen, both
in miniature and at Trentham on the
long ranges.
The following members gained representative honours:—F. Kershaw (senr), F. Kershaw (junr), P. B. Goldfinch, H. H. Morris, F. Ching, J. Ross, L. Hare.
Mr. F. Ching captained the Wellington team which won the Sydney Tisdall Cup.
During the season a postal match was fired against the Wood Club, Nelson, which resulted in a win for the Hutt by 17 points.
