WAIMARIE CROQUET CLUB.

The Waimarie Croquet Club opened its 1928-29 season in Riddoford Park on Saturday afternoon. Although the "weather was very bad, there was a large attendance of representatives from other clubs. Amongst those present were Mrs Austin president), Mrs. E. McKenzie (hon. secretary), Mrs. Wilkinson (hon. treasurer), of Croquet Association.

Mrs Strand (Mayoress and patroness of the club) who has been indisposed for a considerable time, was given a warm welcome from the members.

Mrs Savage (president), in extending a very hearty welcome to all visitors and friends, also introduced the Mayor (Mr. TV. T. Strand), who during Ms speech referred to croquet and all sports which women could take part in. He also made feeling reference to the loss sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Mouat, both being members of the Club.

Mrs. King, who has presented a pair of gold malet brooches for competition among the Hutt Cub was asked to present them to the first holders—Mesdames Exton and Kilby.

A delicious afternoon tea was served in the Plunket Room, the tables being decorated in the club colours. This work was efficiently carried out by Mesdames Vagg and H. Parker.

Bouquets were presented to Mrs Savage (president), Mrs. Strand (patroness) and Mrs. Exton (vice-president).

The weather having cleared the following games were played:—Angles, Mrs Shelly, runner-up Mrs Dryden; quoits, Mrs. TJpton; leaf, Mrs. Stonehouse, runner up, Mrs, Ramsey; tunnel, Mrs E. McKenzie, runner up, Mrs Charlesworth; musical stock, Mesdames Warburton and Ayson. A very handsome basket was presented by Mrs Gowing for competition among the visitors and was won by Mrs J. August.
