VALIDICTORY.

CONSTABLE S. FROST.

A pleasant gathering took place in the Kiver Board's offices last Friday afternoon when a representative gathering of the Lower Hutt business men met for the purpose of farewelling Constable Frost of the local Police Force.

Mr. J. M. Power, president of the Association, said that Constable Frost had received promotion and had been transferred to Maungatoroto, North Auckland. On behalf of the business people of the Hutt he thanked Mm for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his duties during the ten years he had been stationed in the Hutt. Mr. Power referred in a humourous vein to the trials of a policeman and spoke of the courtesy and consideration the local business people had always received from Constable Frost.

The Mayor (Mr. W. T. Strand), on behalf of the citizens, spoke of the excellent way in which Constable Frost had carried out his difficult duties in such a rapidly growing district- The population had more than doubled during the ten years Mr. Frost had been stationed at the Hutt and the police force had not been increased proportionately. Mr. Strand said that he had come into contact with the constable both officially and privately and he had formed a high opinion of him, as an efficient officer and wished both Mr. and Mrs. Frost every success in their new home.

Mr. C. R. Barrett (solicitor), said that as there would not be another court day before Constable Frost's departure, he would like on behalf of the legal profession to thank him for the efficient manner in which he had conducted the court business. Mr. Barrett expressed regret that the district was losing such an efiicient officer. He joned with the oiher speakers in wishing Constable Frost success and said that though his going was a loss to the Hutt it was somebody' elses gain.

On behalf of the business people of the town Mr. Power then presented Mr and Mrs. Frost with an oxolyte toilet tray and brushes and Mr. Frost with military brushes and a fountain pen.

Constable Frost, who was greeted with applause and "He's a Jolly Good Fellow' 7 said the occasion /had come as a great surprise to Mm and expressed thanks on behalf of • Mrs. Frost and himself for the presents and for the nice remarks that had been made about him, and spoke of the growth of the district since Ms arrival in it.

No permanent appointment has yet been made to fill the vacancy.

MR. and MRS. W. WALTON.

A pleasant gathering, took place at Wesley Hall, Lower Hutt, on Wednesday night, when presentations /.were made to Mr and Mrs W. Walton upon their severing their connection with the church. There was a large gathering over which the Rev. C. H. Olds presided. Mr Walton has been associated with the church for 15 years, holding office as circuit steward, society steward and secretary to the trustees. In all those years he has not missed a single quarterlj* meeting nor one of the 95 trustee meetings which have been held. The gift.4 presented were a clock and an ;uiiiel.iiir. Mr F. Jenness speaking on behalf of the trustees, Mr Burgess for the officers and congregation and Mrs Garlick for the ladies. Mr. Walton feelingly acknowledged the gifts and e:.'jvn\<s(fl rogret that it had become necessary to !i.ive Lower Hutt and the churr.Ti with wliiv-h they had been connected for so long.' Refreshments were served and musical items contributed by Mrs Aldersley, Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Johnson and Mr Cortes.
