LOWER HUTT CIVIC ASSOCIATION.

At the monthly meeing of the Association, Mr. Strong (president) occupied the chair. Although the night was unusually wet there was an excellent attendance of members.

Correspondence from the Petone Borough Council intimated that the difficulty with the electric lighting of the Hutt Road Ramp -would soon be overcome. The Electric Power Board's staff had been instructed to remedy the defect.

It was reported that the inquiry regarding the disappearance of the gift fireball would result in its recovery, and ifs historical quality recognised.

The reply of the Council as to the condition and stability of the main traffic river bridge being considered unsatisfactory, further information will be requested.

The 1928-29 Bate Demand issued and accompanied with a re-valuation notice to the ratepayers was the subject of an extended discussion. The ambiguous statement of the Mayor that the rate struck 'compared with the previous year was a reduced one, was caustically criticised.

The raising by loans of £23,7000 (for relief of unemployment) was considered extraordinary.
