LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Mr, G. F. Witty who for the past 4£ years has occupied the position of lines foreman with the Hutt Valley Power Board has severed his connection with that body to take up an important position with the Alliance Electrical Co. Ltd,, as their chief agent for Canterbury and the West Coast of South Island.

The services at the Trinity Congregational Church in Central Terrace are becoming very popular. Next Sunday evening at the close of the service the monthly supper and community sing will be held. These Sunday socials are much enjoyed and do a great deal to bring the congregation into closer contact with one another 1 and'provide an opportunity of welcoming new residents to the district.

The Swimming Club members are making arrangements for the opening of the season and elsewnere will be found notice of the club's annual meeting. It-is hoped that all those interested in the sport will attend.

The attention of the residents of Moera and surrounding district is drawn to the noval entertainment to be held in the Moera Hall on 15th inst. The well known producer, Mr. Harry Preston, has trained a troop of pakeha girls to perform the Maori dances, including the Poi and Haka. We understand this is the only entertainment of its kind in New Zealand.

At the opening of the Bowling Green on Saturday the proceedings were much enlivened by the presence of the High. School Orchestra of 16 performers in charge of their instructor, Mr. G. Langtry. The music was very much appreciated by all and many who heard the * players for the first time expressed surprise that such a fine orchestra was to be found in the Hutt.

An enjoyable afternoon was held at Mrs. W. Andrews's residence, Colin

street, when the members of the Hautana Croquet Club entertained the honorary members of the club. Several amusing competitions were held, the winners being Mesdames Stone, Salt, Gibb, Foster and Murphy. Mrs Gibb sang several songs delightfully which were very much enjoyed by all present. Trophies for the various competitions were kindly donated by Mesdames Lockett, Andrews and Poole.
