The annual football match between teams selected from the Hutt Valley Tramping Club and the Tararua Tramping Club will take place at the Hutt Park on Saturday next at 2.30 p.m. As a curtain raiser the same club will put on a Ladies' Hockey Match. All lady members who have played hockey are invited to communicate/with the secretary Mr S. Jones, 50 Fitzherbert Street, Petone.

The "Waiwhetu Parents' Association held their annual fortnightly dance in the. Moera Hall last Saturday evening. The music was supplied by the Gaiety Orchestra and a very enjoyable time was spent. Prizes were awarded to the successful competitors in the spot dance.

A fine display of daffodils from Sir Heaton Rhodes's garden at Otahuna, Christehurch, will be seen at the local Flower Show to-day and to-morrow. Members of the Society and residents of the Hutt Valley are invited to bringcontributions of cut flowers for sale.

The Fire Brigade was called out about 11 o'clock last Tuesday night to a lire in an outbuilding belonging to Mr. Kimbell of Bloomfield Terrace. The fire had a good hold when the Brigade arrived and the building was totally destroyed. It was only _by the most determined efforts on the part of the Brigade that the four storey house was saved from destruction, the outer walls being badly scorched.

The Band will play (weather permitting) in the Main Street on Friday evening next. It is hoped that those who can will take this opportunity of contributing to the funds of the Band.* The Band is in urgent need of contributions, and bandsmen will be inattendance on Friday evening to receive any donations that the public care to give.

Visitors to the Mower Show expect to be able to take away a bunch of the lovely flowers grown at the Hutt. Competition is very keen and beautiful specimens will be seen.

The sight of a woman smoking in a bus is not a very usual one, but such a display was given one morning recently in the Hutt-Wellington service. The "lady" in question took her seat as per regulations in the rear compartment, and pulling out a packet of fags offered one to her companion, lighting one herself. It was a relief to notice that she had a box of matches, and therefore was not under the necessity 01 adopting the method of striking that is in vogue among workmen and other wearers of • heavy breeches. Two cigarettes were consumed oi> the journey into town, evidently with enjoyment, much business was done in the ash-flicking department, the "fair" smoker being evidently an expert in this department.

To-night (Thursday) Canon Williams t*io Superintendant of the Maori Mission will be holding a missionary meeting at St. James's Hall at 7.30 p.m. Speeches will be interspersed by musical items given by a party of Maoris. All welcome; collection for the mission.

The dance and "500" evening at the Scout Hall last Saturday night was very well patronised, everyone enjoying themselves immensely. The prizes for cards were won by Mrs. Jones and Mr. Marshall, and the special prize by Mrs Fisher. In the dance hall the Monte Carlos were won. by Mrs Murray and Mr. Cavaye and Mass P. Fisher and patrner.

Attention is drawn by advertisement to the plain and fancy dress dance to be held on Saturday evening in aid of Boy Scouts Building Fund. These social evenings are becoming very popular and are worth while supporting.

The Schedule for the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's Shows is now available and should foe in the possessiom of hortieulturalists. The schedule embraces the programme for four shows including tho February fixture which will be an innovation in the form of an open air Social Flower Fete in the picturesque Biddiford Gardens. The Spring Show which will be held on Thursday and Friday of this week will have many attractions for both the professional and the amateur growers. The schedule, which is neatly bound in a pale blue cover containing 83 pages of printed matter, has been very highly commented upon by the secretary and many of the Society's members. The order for the Schedule was entrusted to "The Hutt News Print" and was delivered under the specified time. This is the first time tha Schedule for this important Society has not been printed in Wellington.

St. Stephens' Presbyterian Church has been busy for the past few months in erecting a building suitable for youth work in the growing suburb of Moera. The hall is large and well built, and will be suitable for a boys' club and gymnastics. The hall is to be opened on Saturday next, and thereafter will be used for a Sunday School, and other purposes in connection with church work. The St. Stephens people are to be congratulated on the success of this effort.

At the invitation of the Hospital Board, the Hutt County Council will visit the hospital and will also be present at one of the board 's meetings. This, the invitation from the board explained, will enable the council to realise the activities of the board and become familiar with its administration.

A nasty spill from a bicycle on the Hutt Road was experienced about 4 p.m on Friday by Frank Blackett, a scholar of 60 Hill Street, who sustained severe concussion and facial wounds. Blaekctt was riding at a fair pace when his bicycle ran over a stone and threw him heavily on his head o the ground.

About '2.15 p.m. on Saturday a motor-cycle on which two young men were riding collided with a bicycle in Woburn Eoad, Lower Hutt. The driver of the motor-cycle, J. Hughes, a carpontor, of 74 Webb" Street, sustained a fractured skull and abrasions to the face, hands, and legs while D. Wilson a carpenter, who lives at the Clarendon Hotel and who was pillion riding received a contused wound over the eye and abrasions to the right elbow and left knee. The cyclist, T. D. Wildo, an engineer of Nikaw Avenue, Lower Hutt, sustained concussion and abrasions to the forehead.
