The game was marred by two nasty accidents — Wright and Loader of Hutt having to leave the field. About 10 minutes had gone when Wright received a hit from a stick just over the knee which compelled him to exchange places with the goal-keeper. A few y minutes later Loader was struck over the heai%t with a^fast ball which caused him to bleed inwardllyy for about twenty minutes. He had to leave the field immediately. >The opponent whose pass injured Loader, left the field at half -time to attend the injured man, leaving both teams with ten men throughout the second . half. Then ten minutes from time Wright also had. to leave as his injured knee had stiffened, leaving Hutt with nine men. Stoupe scored twice in the first speell for Hutt and Clelland added to the total from a scramble in the goal mouth in the second half. The game was fairly fast considering the changes necessitated through injuries. " Mr. J. Cusaek was the referee.

LADIES > CLUB. Senior A Section. Six Senior A and two Junior trial teams provided an afternoon's sport last Saturday well worth seeing. Starting off with the Junior Trials, the standard of play increased culminating in the sterling and particularly fine display of the finalists in the senior section. This latter game was as good as has been seen for_many a long day in any grade of hockey .in Wellington, and the participants are to be congratulated on their play and the sporting spirit in which the game was fought. Looking at this match it is safe to say that when the rep, team is picked

Wellington's prospects, of lifting the Tourney must be considered rosy. As to whom would be the champions rested on this game arid every player from the moment of starting to the final whistle gave every ounce to win, so much so that the game ended in a draw but those able to give an authoritive opinion consider Hutt unlucky to lose, though the difference was slight.

From the bully Swifts (black), attacked but a free hit to Hutt (reds), brought some mid-field play and M. JFrascr securing, went right through with a clever run and opened Hutt's account bright and early.. Give and take, even play followed, when Swifts rushed strongly and A. Smith was "penalised for obstructing- in the circle, a penalty corner being conceded . from which T. McDowell hit out. Sticks by Miss Waters allowed Hutt to clear down field. Another strong rush by the blacks was brilliantly stopped "by R. Woods- (reds)," characteristically beating several and sending well down field. Blacks returning were well stopped by P. Hendle. A quick black rush reached circle a penalty corner being coneexle'd but sticks by M. Wilkins (black), J. McDowell cleared well down field and rod set up a series of strong attacks, Miss Press having to concede corners. Reds were hard at it, Swifts' goalie and also Mrs Mann clearing well. R»d were persistent, a penalty corner being conceded by Blacks who rushed up field again only to be sent right back by the Red full backs. Mrs Smith and Mrs. Woods, who were in great form, missed nothing. After a free hit against Miss Bestlc, Blacks, in a strong concerted attack reached Reds' circle where Jean McDowell

(playing her best game this season), stopped the attack at the critical moment in the circle. From the clearance A. Foster centred and M. Wilkins, (blacks' skipper), had a shot, lifting high and hitting over. Reds now set up a strong series of attacks. A penalty for sticks, Jean McDowell hit over. From the bully Reds rushed the circle and after an amount of play in its vicinity Mrs. Sundgren scored. Reds 2, Blacks 0. Blacks from the bully came to mid-field where sticks on both sides ended in Mrs Corless stopping the Black attack. "Securing again M. Wilkins for Blacks had a shot but went wide. Mid-field play for a while, when Miss Kilby received a smack on the foot from the ball, necessitating a few minutes delay. Spell came shortly after. Reds having dominated play in the first half.

On resuming mid-field work and sticks on both sides Eeds gained advantage and sweeping up-field O. Buttiniore just missed with a shot. Reds continued pressing. Blacks reached Reds' circle and from a melee Miss Waters had a shot but gave sticks. Once more in the circle V. Fraser (red goalie) cleared splendidly. From a corner Miss Bestic hit over. Red went up field again, M. Fraser and T. McDowell associated the latter just missing. Immediately after M. Fraser being just off her balance at time of striking, pulled her shot wide. Mrs Mann stopped a strong red attack. After a good centre by T. McDowell, Miss Kilby sents Blacks away to reach the circle and once again V. Fraser cleared well. Back again the Reds came up field, T. McDowell with "a good centre going right across. Reds attacking again, O. Buttimore centred well to F. Sundgren, to M. Fraser .who missed again by inches* only.. Blacks came right away, and -V. Fraser saved brilliantly. Midfield work then came, Blacks again came down, Ueds clearing to mid-field. O. Buttimore and M. West for Reds came down with a splendid run. An obstruction by a black player conveniently saved trouble close to goal. Blacks dashed right down field, M. McIntyre reaching the circle and V. Fraser clearing well. Returning the Blacks were sent back by P. Hendle clearing well up field to T. McDowell who reached . the circle to see Miss Press clear. P. -Hendle pulled up another Black attack. M. Wilkins hit well down and over. Reds attacked again, Mrs. Mann stopping mischief splendidly, enabling her forwards to get another attempt which P.. Hendle cut short. Blacks came again. M. Wilkins centred well and from a scuffle in the circle M. Mclntyre shot and found tho> net for Blacks. Give and take play and only ten minutes to go. M. Wilkins secured from a return and got in a high shot. Score 2 all. Reds

came right back, O. Buttimore centring, T. McDowell just missing. Play was j moving up and down faster than ever, I and the pace had been a cracker all j through. At this stage Miss Harper got a smack causing the third delay. Miss Waters shortly before having the same misfortune. From the Black attack T. McDowell secured and going up the wing beat all opposition even to bringing the goalie out, and after beating had the almost unheard of misfortune to stumble just as she was in the act of striking f t or an unopposed goal and thereby probably would have won the match for her side. From the play round Swifts goal she secured again and centred perfectly, O. Buttimore receiving and putting in a strong attempt at this last moment to pull the game out of the fire, missed the net by a fraction. Blacks rushed straight down field but a free hit near the cir -cle stopped play and the match. Time had occurred and the drawn game of two all gave Swifts the championship after a hard and strenuous game, full of as much excitement for 'the specta- j tors and anxiety to the players as any could wish. 9 Of the 22 players in this match all ' and everyone played as if for her iife. A feature was the perfect work of Hutt's full backs, surpassing only the general good play of all. Mr. W. A. Scott refereed in his usual efficient style. The following teams will take the field at Karori at 2 p.m on Saturday, 11th inst., for finalising selection: — "A" —Huggins, A. Smith, R. Woods, M. Kilby, P. Hendle, Kean, Pickering, J. Harper, M. Mclntyre, M. Fraser, T. McDowell. Reserves: Campbell, Shaw, J. McDowell, Lovegrove, Jamieson. '' B'' —V. Fraser, Rankin, F. Prince, L. Corless, Webb, A. Lucena, O. Buttimore, M. Wilkins, F.
