ANNUAL DANCE

HUTT ATHLETIC CLUB]

The first annual dance and presentation of prizes of the Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club took place last week at Kino- George dance hall, Xr.ower Hutt. The • large crowd present spent a most enjoyable evening dancing to the splendid music of the Gaiety Orchestra. Owing to a (bereavement in hia family the Mayor, Mr. Strand, was absent, and the trophies were presented by the chairman of the dance committee, Mr J. Forsyth. In a brief speech he stated that it was very gratifying to see such a large gathering at their first annual social. He outlined the activities of the Athletic Club, and in a few years' time it was hoped to see this young Club secure championship honours. In conclusion Mr FoTsyth thanked the donors for the cups presented to the Club for competition. The following trophies were presented:—Eraser Cycling Cup for the majority of points secured in cycling events, won by K. Christiansen. The James Cup for the ladies, worn by Miss E. Corless. The Matthew's Cup for the most points in running, won by J. Bal lan.tyne. Junior Cup presented by Mr C. E. Honnan, won by J. Corless.

The social secretary, Mr J. Corless, wishes to thank the committee and all others who rendered assistance to ensure the success of the function. The committee is as follows: —Meadames Vagg, La Roche, De Castro, and Forsyth, Messrs Melrose,. Vagg, De Castro and La Roche.
