(By LEFT WING)

Hockey matches were resumed on Saturday on heavy grounds when the first round of the Senior A competition was brought to a close. Owing to suri prises on .Saturday the competition is , jiow in sl vexy interesting state and i is hard to .forecast who will be the , champions for 1928. Senior A results are as follows- — V.M.C.A. 2 Wesley 1 Karori 5, ELutt 0. Wellington 2, 'Varsity 2. Petone a bye. SENIOR B Petone nict V.M.C.A. on the village green on Saturday, but owing to the heavy state of the ground and the long grass, the game did not come up to expectattioaifi. Petono were continually attacking in the first spell, but poor stick work in the circle married many promising openings. Half-time came with no score .and a close second ralf was pre- ■ dieted. It was some time before Y.M. could break through the defence and : then from a good passing movement V.M.C.A. found the net, this was followed a few minutes later by another goal. This reverse speeded the local team up and from a good combined movement W. McGrowan found the net with a splen did shot. From the initial bully, K. Francis received and after a fine solo run placed Petone level with a good goal. Up and down play was the order until the finish of the game. The score of 2 all was a fair indication of the play. Mr H. Smith ably controlled the game. * * * * * The Petone Juniors travelled to Karori Park and met defeat at the hands of the strong Huia eleven by 5 goals to nil. The game was played in splendid spirit and the score by no means indicates the trend of play. NOTES ON THE PLAYERS Petone Senior A play Ivarori on Saturday next and an interesting game should be the result. ***** A. Ai,nlie- played a great game at , centre half on, Saturday, and was more at home than by being in the forwards. ***** I\ Band played a good game as custodian and stopped some hot shots. ***** C. Bullen was very unlucky in not scoring in the closing stages of the game. It was an excellent save on the part of the V.M.C.A. custodian. ***** The forwards all played well but are inclined to bunch too much. ***** A. Pottet stopped many promising movements but should try to cultivate hard hitting, to feed the forwards. ***** C. Smith is .playing good hockey for the Juniors this: season. ***** W. Harris saved a number of hot shots against Huia and is the makings of a first-class goal-keeper. * * * * * The club intend holding a social next Saturday in the Central Bowling Club's Pavilion and all members are invited to bring their friends. So roll up boys, and make this a huge success, a nominal charge has been decided on to cover cxi penses. ***** Goals Chp. P. W. L. D. Fr. Agt. Pts.
