IN AND ABOUND TAITA

Mr Percy Moore, while playing football last Saturday, received a badly bruised leg, and had to be carried off the field. Mr Moore is progressing satisi factorily, although his injury is most ( painful. Miss Ivy Brewer is at present on a. holiday visit to Taita. Mrs ,G. Hunt and Mr F. Kitchener were the winners of the euchre party held last Tuesday night in the Taita Hall. They were complimented on their play and were the recipients of handsome trophies. A special prize, donated by Mrs Home, who is a keen euchre enthusiast, was won by Mrs Walters. Motorists complain of' the heavy shingle at the intersection! of Main Road and Tennyson Avenue. The effect of this shingle to motor caTs is somewhat dangerous as it causes skidding. On Saturday there were a large numher of football enthusiasts present at the Taita football ground to witness the game, Taita v. St. Patrick's College. The gam© was a splendid one to watch and it was evident that Taita was up against a hard proposition. Taita won the toss and St. Pat's kicked off. The Taita forwards again played a great game and they secured the ball from the serums in the majority of cases. It nearly always appears to be the case that when Taita are behind in the first spell, they always play a much' better game in the second half. At th«e end- of the first spell the score was 5 nil in St. Pats' favour, but this was no indication that St. Pat's were the better team. Taita stuck to it hard and" were unlucky they did not score. The passing movements by the College backs were a treat to watch. . In the second half Taita got into it in earnest and played, at times, brilliantly. The backs were in good form and their combination was up to the mark, and their tackling was "deadly." Some good passing rushes were indulged in, which helped the team, to gain ground at opportune moments. G-eorge Gorrie, by following up fast, was successful iv scoring a good try. Borra -failed to convert. St. Pat's, 5; Taita, 3. Both teams were now, hard at it and some up and down play followed. From the ruck Pat Briee managed to get the ball and jumped over' near the corner flag to score the last try of the day. The final score was Taita 6, St. "Pat's, 5.

The Taita team was as follows:— Backs: J. Searle, J. Prestige, P. Moore, A. Boora, B. Foster, P. Briee, G. Gorrie. Forwards: S. Carter, F. Gorrie, J. Gorrie, T. Stella, A. I>oran, V. Birkard, D. Pescini, D. McArthuT. On Saturday next Taita will try conclusions with. Athletic A, when a hard aniji exciting game should result. This perhaps, will be the hardest team Taita 1 will have to meet, and it is hoped that I the team will 'be at full strength. The Third class team were defeated by Poneke to the tune.of 16 points to 6. Taita were short and several Seventh grade players had to be substituted. The Fifth grade team had a win on Saturday defeating Hutt by 5 points to 3. A very pleasing function was held af the Taita on Tuesday evening, and there was a good attendance. The result of the prizes were as follows:—Ladies' prize won by Mrs C. Dornej gentlemen's prize won by Mr Reed. Special prize won by Mrs P. Walters.
