INCREASED POLICE PROTECTION

POSITION AT LOWER HUTT

Cr. Roberts moved at last night's meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council that the Council bring before the notice of the Commissioner of Police the urgent need for increased police protection in the borough. There had been a lot of burglaries committed and the police force was inadequate to cope with it. The population had increased to such an extent that the time had now arrived when more police protection was essential. There are only three policemen in Lower Hutt and six in Petone, yet Lower Hutt had about the same population. Cr. Waldie seconded:—'Carried.
