HUTT CENTRAL SCHOOL.
In the recent Navy League Essay Competition on the subject, "The exploits of an early British Navigator in the Pacific," Miss Mollie A. Best, a pupil of the above school, was successful in winning the first prize for the primary schools of the Dominion. This is certainly a noteworthy distinction and we congratulate the school and the winner on the achievement. In the Pageant of Industries Competition which was lately held in Wellington, Miss Ailsa King won the first prize for map-drawing and the second prize for art colouring work advertisement. Master Vornier England also won a prize for map-draw-ing. In the recent Writing Competition of the British and Colonial Industries among the schools, the following scholars were successful: — C. Smith's Competition.—Standard VI.: Reg. Mclntyre, Ist, 15/-; St. V., Eric Kilmister, Ist, 15/-; St. 1., Walter England, Ist, 10/6. Ford Motors' Competition.—St. VL, Noel Shearer, Ist, 10/6; St. 11., Noel Vine, Ist, 10/6. A.B.C. Competition.—St. VI., Rowley Elbe, 4th, 5/6; Adelaide Mowatt, 6th, 4/-; Ailsa King, 7th, 3/6. St. V., Marie Wallace, 2nd, 7/6; Dora Cunningham, 3rd, 6/6; St. 11., Noel Vine, 3rd, 3/6; Vera McKay, 4th, 3/6.
