BOWLING NOTES.
Conditions were anything but pleasant on Saturday last as regards weather, the high wind being rather trying, but all the same the rinks were advanced another stage and some enjoyable games were witnessed. In Section I. Hodgins' rink is now leading with four wins. In Section 2 Johnson and Lopdell have each had four wins and the meeting of these two teani3 is looked forward to with a good deal of interest. Entries closed on Saturday for the Junior Singles, which generally proves a. most interesting, .event. As only eight entries were received there will probably be only one section. It was noticed that parts of the new green were very uneven and in fact one rink was almost unplayable, indicating that there has been a subsidence somewhere. This is a matter that should be attended to, as bowlers will not take any interest in the game or stick to a club if the rinks provided are not up to the mark. We desire to correct a statement which was made in our last issue regarding the "Edsvin" Feathers. These were, it seems, donated to the club by Mr. George Mason, an old member of the club, who is now a resident of our neighbouring city, Wellington. Jock Kerr seems to be bowling well this season, and is considered to be a dark horse for the Singles Championship. He is a hard worker in the club's interest, particularly in the refreshment room, where his stall in mixing tea, coffee and other beverages is well known and deserving of all commendation. Members were pleased to welcome "Ted" back again after his illness. Although Ted is not quite himself again his bowling has not gone off in any way, and he proved a tower of strength for Bill Hendry on Saturday and.materially assisted mi the defeat of Young's team. Hendry's team, by the way, should be in the hunt for the champion honours this year. "Pagey" is the lead and, judging by the way he bowled on Saturday—well, it was worth going miles to see. Jimmy was skipping, while Bill played No. 3, proving a good combination. The time for the Tournaments is coming on, and members should be getting their teams in radiness. It is regrettable that so few of the Hut players take advantage of the tournaments which are offering. The writer considers that tournament play offers the best possible opportunities for improving one's play and knowledge of the game. Also the chance of meeting other bowlers is one that should be taken advantage of. It is hoped that the club will be represented in all the tournaments offering this season, especially in the Centre Tournament to be held in Wellington.
