ST. JAMES' CHURCH SOCIAL.
On Thursday evening of last week the final "Get Together Social" of the season arranged by the Vestry of St. James' Church, was held in the Church Hall, when a most enjoyable evening was spent. Songs were rendered by Messrs. Barnes and Tunley and recitations by Mr. House. A party of Girl Guides sang a number of amusing choruses in costume. The rest of the evening was given up to games and community singing. The opportunity was taken of farewelling Mr. and Mrs. A. Barnes, who are about to leave the district for Auckland. On behalf of the choir, Sunday School and Vestry the Vicar (Archdeacon Hansell) presented them with a crystal salad bowl and biscuit barrel and spoke of the valuable work they had done for the parish. Mr. Barnes feelingly replied and said that the greatest regret he had in leaving the parish .was having to relinquish the position of superintendent of the Sunday School. He had found the work interesting and urged someone to come forward to take his place. The ladies provided supper and a most enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne and "God Save the King."
