Transport Old and New FROM A WOMAN'S POINT OF VIEW. Sir, —I should like to remind your readers of some of the discomforts we suffered in the days when we were dependent on the Railway Service. First the buses could never be depended upon, and you ran the chance of seeing the-train move off just as you got to the station, and then had to wait until the next train. Then, if you did arrive in time, it was quite possible you would., still miss your train, as the ticket office was only opened about five minutes before train time; and if there was a crowd there, and you had several children, and the train right down at the end of the platform, there was not much chance of your getting it. Then, coming back in the evening, if you wanted a seat in the buses between 5 and 6 p.m., you had to come early, and then sit in a cold, crowded bus until two or three other trains came in, even if the bus was already full. Then again, the trains stopped at either end of the platform, and if women, with children and prams and parcels, were at the end of the train, they had little or no chance of getting the bus. . Then again, the tickets were for day of issue only. Now we have a good, well-equipped, comfortable bus service, with good, obliging, capable drivers, and the return tickets can be used at any time. Why should we be called upon to give up such a satisfactory service to most Hutt people? Surely, as the Hutt grows, there will be room for both bus and train. Already the bus service has done much towards bringing city people out here to live. Besides, in these days a quicker service is required, and the buses provide it, as you can get a bus almost every 15 minutes; and a monopoly is always bad in any business.—Yours, etc., "OLD HUTT/'
