SOCIAL.

A vrry enjoyable social evening in the form of a dance, progressive ouchre and musical items was held by the members of the staff of the Lower Hutt Post Office recently, in the Lyceum Hall. This being the initial social event organised by the staff of the local office, no effort was spared in providing every comfort for the large number of guests present. The hall, which was cosily decorated with numerous flags, lacapodium, evergreens and bowls of spring flowers, presented a particularly gay picture with chai*ming frocks, streamers, confetti and coloured caps. Progressive euchre was carried on until supper-time by those who did not desire to dance, and appropriate prizes were presented to the winners and losers, respectively, by Mr. Wallace, postmaster. Vocal items were given during the evening by Mr. D. Hogg, Johnsonville, Miss K. Wood and Miss M. Harris, of Wellington. Mr. F. Thomas kindly acted as accompanist. The dance music supplied by the Hutt Valley Orchestra added greatly to the gaiety and success of the evening.
