HUTT RIVER BOARD
A meeting of the Hutt River Board was held on 28th ult., the following members attending:— Mr. W. T. Strand (Chairman), Messrs. J. Mitchell, W. H. Smith and J. Mabey. Arrangements were made to have a fence erected round the horse paddock for the Melling Shingle Co:
It was decided to grant Mr. C. F. Pulley a license to erect a plant for the purpose of. removing, shingle from the A-licetown Beaches, subject to the approval of the engineer at all. times.
The Sports' Protection League wrote stating that a sesolutlon had been passed at a conference of representatives ©f sports? bodies to the effect that they would support any effort on the part of local bodies to acquire Gear Island as a sports' ground. It was agreed to- inform the League that the Board would be pieased to meet a- conference: of interested" bodies and: go more fully into the matter. The Chairman pointed out the importance of maintaining the dead arm on the western side, to take the western hill drainage. Mr. J. Mitchell was granted six months leave of absence.
