The Maoris' Ambulance
THE CHILDREN'S SELF-DENIAL WEEK. My Dear Children," —I hope you all j remembered our self-denial week and that the result will be a very good sale-day next Wednesday, Jamiarty! 24th. I hope every one of you will bring something for the work stall, especially the boys. I shall be at the Centuryl Hall on Tuesday, Jan-> uary 23rd at 4.30 p.m. I hope some of yon elder ones will come and help to .get our stall ready. Any child who did not get a card at school can have one on that day. I hope to get the 560 pennies which I hope you saved on January Ist, for the big flag which is to go witli the ambulance. All work hard this week to get promises of fruit, vegetables, [ cakes and sweets. 'Do not let it be I said about you and me that we have failed to do our "little bit" for the men who are doing so much for us. Our ambulance is to cost £650, including a year's upkeep, and children we are going to do it. We want it in France by Easter Sunday, April Btli, in time for the "great push." Work hard this week so that our sale will be a .great success. We can't all be soldier or doctors, but every one of us can help to win this great war; to defend our flag from a relentless foe, and ito win the proudest birthright of the race—freedom. This war was not of our choosing and we shall never ask for peace. I hope all my Maoris will help in any way that they can, especially in bringing produce, etc., early in the morning of the 24th. Do not forget to tell mother to come and have afternoon tea with us. Now, my children, remember every Is earned will be tile means of bringing one of our wounded soldiers quicker to a place of comfort and skill.—Your sincere friend, E. L. LEWIS, Native Nurse.
