The Chronicle LEVIN. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1916. THE COUNTY FUND.

The County Fund lor relief of wounded soldiers and their dependents seems likely to reach a high plane. The meeting of delegates held in Levin oil Wednesday showed a commendable spirit in all matters discussed, and the final resolution as to membership to control the fund was one that will do much to popularise it. A great many people who will subscribe on per annum might have been disinclined to subscribe £1 as a qualification for membership, and the fact will remain evident to all who see their duty clear that no subscription to such a cause is sufficient if it fall short of what the can afford to give. It is from a full recognition of this fact that the fund will derive its greatest prospects of attaining adequate proportions, and we think the people of the whole county will not be found wanting in this regard. Whether the war ends soon or late, the regrettable truth remains to he faced that a great many of our strongest and bravest lads will return to us broken in body and health, and therefore unable, to provide properly for their own maintenance. Til many eases the Govcrmeut pension will suffice to meet the needs of the cases, but around others there will be cir-

fimistaiicos making necessary the giving of further help; and in such cases the County Fmul will provide a proper means of meeting the need. The rules adopted by yesterday's meeting of delegates provide a thoroughly representative hoard of control. and doubtless every part of the county will unite to establish the fund in sound financo.
