"CLEAN-UP AND PAINT-UP" CAMPAIGN.

(To the Editor.) Sir.—lt i.s now throe days ago since Mr Fosella made the statement in your paper in his reply to ours of the 20th, inst. "That he was eertaiin 99 in every 100 resident of Levin were of the same opinion as himself regarding tho "Clean-up and Paint-up" Campaign. Now Sir we are sure you will agree with us, that it i's most remarkable that not one of these numerous residents have taken the trouble to back thoir "leader" up in his bold statement. It is quite evident to us that if Mr Fosella is correct in his surmises, that his supposed follow, ers -are n'ot keen on him as a "champion" of their cause. On the other hand we have the very able backing of the following gentlemen,: The editors of the Mannwatu Herald, Otaki Mail, Manawatti Standard, andi your good self, also numerous prominent residents who have spoken to U6 personally in high terms of the object. We are, huiwever. pleased to note that Mr Fosella has admitted that he, like the Otaki correspondent of the Xew Zealand Ti,iuo.s, iniseontrucd the the real object of the campaign. We are confident that time will prove that wo were wiiso in not" advertising the ■whole of our scheme until the details had been arranged. We sincerely thank Mr Fosella, for his kindi assistance to the publicity eommittco of this cawpaign, and trust that it will be the means of 'bringing out the views of other citizens.—We are, etc.. IvTIXN P7TIT AITKEN, Cha.irman. D. W. MATHESON, Secretary.
