(BY Telegraph—Special to The Chronicle). NOTES OX THE RACES. Christchiireh, This Day. * Derby TXiy (Monday) was iavoured with perfect weather, and was characterised with exceptionally fine racing that is likely to be long remembered. The times were exceedingly fast. Marco Bello an absolute outsider of the field in the Metropolitan Handicap, made it a record for this race. doing the distance in 2niin. 33sec. He was the last to leave the mark, but won comfortably from the unlucky Mullingar (second) and John Barleycorn (third) with a bare nose between. The race for the Derby was an exceptionally fine one: there being five startel's. Egypt was made a prime favourite, with Mr G. Tv. Stead's The Toff next, and then Warckncer. Rockbound led for three-quarters of a mile and was then done with. Wardancei was temporarily slighted, also Good Hope, but at the distance Egypt and The Toff won clear, and after a dingdong go Hewitt landed his mount home by a head from Egypt amidst loud cheering, which was renewed when the horse weighed £n "correct" and again when the horse was decorated with the blue riband. No more popular win has been seen on any lacecour.se. In the Ashley Handicap (one mile)' the top weight was carried by the Levin mare Ladifv. It was 8.13 and it anchored her. Thaddeus comfortably. Big dividends were the order of the day, only three favourites out of eight being successful. The race for the 250050 v. Trotting Cup takes places to-day.
