NOTICE TO OCCUPIERS OF ORCHARDS. Tll HE Orchard-tax, 191G, is now in force. Under this Act there is payable by every occupier of an orchard as on 30th September, 1916, a tax of Is per aero or part of an acre, with a minimum of 2s 6d. The tax is imposed on all orchards irrespective of area, producing fruit for sale (includiing orchards planted for this purpose although not in bearing) is due on Ist November. 1916, and is payable without further demand at any moneyorder post-office up to and including 22nd November, 1916, after which date 10 per cent, additional will be charged. Further information can be obtained fivm the Director of the Horticulture Division, Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, Wellington, or from any money-order post-office.

In compliance with the regulations under the Orchard and Garden Diseases Act, made cn 2nd October, 1&1 G. as to the registration of orchards, every person growling one or more of the following trees—viz.. apple, pear, quince, pencil, nectarine, plum, cherry, apricot, nut. or citrus tree or grapevine—is required to make application not later than 2Gtli October, 1916, for the registration of the property whereon such trees are growing. Registration is free of charge; the penalty for non-registration is a fine not exceeding £20. Forms of application for registration are obtainable from any Orchard Instructor, or District Agent, or from the Director of the 'Horticultural Division, Department! of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, Wellington. 1131-1 BY ORDER.
