It totally destroyed Gibbons Ltd. (sawmills. At first the township and extensive stocks of timber were in danger, but the north-west wind kept the fire in the direct ion of the river. It was impossible to save the milling plant. The steamer Wairua proceeded to the scene from Dargaville with the fire brigade aboard. The ste;:m fire engine was sent this morning to save two million feet of white pin,> timber.
