Girls' Friendly Society
LEVIN BRANCH. THE REPORT. In looking back upon the work of the Girls' Friendly Society during the past year it has certainly been a. time of struggle with so many objects and counter-attractiolis, making their claims upon one's time and interest. Still we have 'held our own and have been encouraged ill along by the steadfastness of a few associates and members, and our fortjniightly meetings though small have been bright and hearty. During the year three mem-
bers have married and have left the district, while on the other hand four new members and two more associates have joined our ranks. It i» to be regretted that the candidates' class has been for a time suspended: and it is hoped that (Some plan may be formed for carrying on this valuable work in the coming year. The branch has been of real use in helping on the work of the Church. On November 24th and 2oth the sum of £22 8s was raised by the G.F.S. candidates' stall nt tihe parish bazaar eind on May 24th, 1916, a small sale held by the G.F.S. (including a few subscriptions and donations) realized the sum of '£22 for the Melaneeian mission. A nice collection of various "bandages, I tags, knitted scarves, etc.. madie fay the branch for the men at the front was sent to Wellington on September i'tli; also some garments for Belgian children from one of the members. We are at present preparing for our stalll at the Church Guild bazaar on October 31?t and November Ist. It is gratifying to find that our G.F.S. has proved herself a useful handmaid to the church, but we must consider, before all else, the real object of the society, viz., the help it shc*ild be to the girls tjhemjselves in putting !
before them a higher standard of thought- and the beauty of that purity of heart without which no one can see God. It is with genuine Te-
gret that I must Lid farewell to my fellow workers in Levin, thanking all the i\Bsoeiate« for tlioir help so
willingly rendered: the workers—as B those on active service; and tho lionorary associates as those wlio help to> j provide the munition* of war in this ! warfare against the powers of evil. It j is a great satisfaction to find that. ] there are others ready and willing to j C(irry on the organization, and I shalF jj leave with happy thought*; of the- S
