'So LIAL" AND PRESENTATION TO MRS. STEALEY. Last evening a farewell 'social" was held in S. Mary's Sunday achooliooni, Levin, under the auspices of tho G.F.S., the Work Guild, Choir, and the Sunday School teachers, the object being to say farewell to Mrs. Stealcv ,who will be leaving the district in about three weeks' time. The room .was crowded. Mr. Tom Brown took the chair and announced the following musical and other items, all of which were greatly, appreciated:— Dint, Mrs. Matthews and Miss Pink; song, Mrs. Collier; song. DuckwUrth and Mrs. Gapper took their seats at the table, when the following words of appreciation were addressed. to Mrs. Stealey by Mrs. Duckworth: "It may seem a little premature to have arranged this social as a farewell to Mis. Stealey three weeks before the date of her departure, but it is partly due to the fact that we shall be busy preparing"* for the church bazaar, which is lixed lor October 31st and .November Ist; and also that the G.F.S. decided to have a little social among themselves, as it was their bust meeting with Mrs. Stealey as branch secretary. It seemed appropriate that the choir, Sunday School teachers, and the sewing guild should join With the G.F.S., as Mrs. Stealey has been in close touch with all these branches of church work in the parish. She has worked so .much among us, and taken such deep interest in all that has been undertaken, that we feel we cannot sufficiently express our gratitude. We know that we shall miss her greatly in our little gatherings and there will be a blank not easy tto fill, but w6 f-hall always think of her as our friend and remember her in our players. We wish her and Mr Stealey health and happiness in t-liar new home and trust they may have much joy and comfort in the work they are taking up at I'etone. Mrs Gapper represents the four organizations wiiieh have joined together in giving this farewell and she is ■ ailed upon to make a little presentation 011 our behalf. We beg you to accept this handbag as a token of our esteem andi trust with the contents of the bag you will bo able to purchase something for your personal use or your new iio.v.e to remind you of your friends in Levin."
Mrs Stealey suitably responded snd expressed her gratitude for the kind words which had been spoken to her and for the presents which she had received. This was followed' bv a speech from the chairman (Mr T. Brown) vr.no added' a few kind words to those already spoken by Mrs Duckworth, and led to the singing of "For Clio's a Jolly Good Fellow."
