Horowhenua A and P. Association
AMVUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Horowheliua A. and P. Association was hold in the Foresters' Hall on Saturday. There whs a good attendance presided , over by Mr J. Kebbell. The annual report was read as follows:— \our committee have pleasure in presenting to you the tenth annual .report and balanoe-sheet, and in doing so ■wish to extend to one and all tho thanks far the support and valuable assistance rendered by them during the past year which proved the means of bringing the show of 1916 to a successful issue, both from a patriotic and financial point of view. You are all aware that owing to the great national war. we were at that time facing, and which rendered it necessary for many of our young men of the district to go and assist in. defending our country, it was decided to devote the net profits of the 1916 show to the West Coast Farmers' Wounded Soldiers' Fund. and your committee have pleasure in stating that the sum of £125 has now been handed to that fund for the benefit of our young soldiers who on their return may be need of some aesistance. Apart from this your association has still a credit balance in hand from tho previous year of some £90 oddi. Your committee regret that the result of the last show on- a whole was not equal to the previous one, but this is still owing to the fact, that so many of our younger men have gone to the front who were both competitors and members of the asoeiation. It is with' deep regret that we have to record a further loss to the association in the death of two of its valuable members, viz., Messrs J. Da vies (late president), and A. (Drake, and we feel sure that their relatives have the deepest sympathy of all members of the association. The association has lost three very energetic workers in Messrs J. Drysdale. W. Simpson, and J. Howell, all of whom have recently left the district. They regret to say that it is also likely to suffer a further temporary loss in Mr M. H. E. Gorringe, who is shortly leaving for the front, and who will, we feel sure, carry the best wishes of the members generally with hiim. Special thanks are also due to Mr W. M. Clark for his donation of a silver cup for competition in. the dairy cattle class, also to the directors of the Horowhenua Park Company. Ltd., for their patriotism in granting the asosciatian the use of their grounds free of charge for their last show. Your committee wish to again tender their thanks and appreciation to all those who so liberally donated to the funds of the association, especially those who refunded prize money for the benefit of the patriotic fund. They trust that the show of 1017 will be even more successful than the previous ones, and that the incoming committee will endeavour still to
t further the advancement of the associi ation, for the benefit of the district y generally. With al.l good wishes for e continued success. John Kebbell. 1 | Mr dully thought th at more notice 3 should! bo given of the annual meeting i and that copies of the balance-sheet j should be sent out to members some > time beforehand so as to give thorn a 1 chance of considering it.
