The trial of Alfred Charles Jewell Devoin, charged with the murder of Louisa' AMiite in Nairn-street- reserve on 14th May, began in the Supreme Court to-day. On being asked to plead accused said; "I tried to kill myself. I did not fire at her. I lovedi her." The question was twice again -repeated and the f-anu: answer being given, •Judge Chapman ordered a plea of not guilty to be entered. The case is proceeding.
