New Note Issue

♦ BANK OF NEW ZEALAND PAPER. (New Zealand* Times.) The Bank of New Zealand has decided: to issue a new design of one and five pound notes. ' The new one pound note is similar in size to the old one, but it is a far more coloured production, having at least seven different and diistinet tints. ft is also a much more presentable article than its predecessor. The wording 011 the note varies but little with the old one, but the same blocks indicative of New Zealand have been preserved, only they arc set differently, in the now notes being placed to the right and left of the body of the note instead of above the other. The back of the new note is almost as elaborate as the front, and is a fine sample of the cngaver's art. - The new five pound note is larger than the one the public has been accustomed to handle, and. it is also a more pleasing article from the aesthetic viewpoint. It, too. resembles Jacob's coat, many colours being run together, in (|iiite an 'artistic manner. The same blocks are used in the "fiver" as in the less valuable note. The back view of til's note is again elaborate, .but hardly as much as the v new one pound note. The new issues will t ike the places of the old ones as the latter run out. Tin- note lias been distributed to various points in New Zeabuln. and no doubt, they will soon be in general use.
