The Presbyterian Concert

A MARKED SUCCESS.

Levin Presbyterian Church held its annual concert last night, in the Century Hall. The building was crowded to the dloors, and we doubt if there \v',is one dissatisfied patron in the whole budding, for the concert was of a high order of merit. Diversity, of items wa.s one ot its characteristics and consequently there was an item to suit every taste. The "auld Scots gangs" were bcliutifully sung hy Mrs Kennedy and Mi>« Halliburton, while the pibrochs and strathspeys and incidental skirls on the pipes contributed by "Mr Robert Burns warmed the heart of every Scot the building. Mr Burns showed himself a clever dancer also, and he contributed. the Highland fling and the fcliilor's hornpipe with a lightness and daintiness of movement that gained him prolonged applause. Messrs H. F. "Wood and Goudie, in songs and duets, gave mtiny pleasing sentimental dritties, and in every instance they had to yield encores. Mr "W. Hughes pleased the audience with his singing of the Toreador song from "Carmen," mid (Mr Kenneth Aitken gave a Shakespearean recitation with appropriate force and general effect. The low comedy Seotcli humor of Harry Dander's songs was effectively interpreted Master Winston McCarthy, a dot of a child whose actions and Scottish dialect worked the audience into a state of uproarious menriment. The outstanding numbers on the program were.— Mrs Kennedy's "Chine ye by Atliol," Miss Halliburton's "Afton "Water," the olden duet "Gleam, gleam, oh silver stream," by Messrs "Woods and Goudie, and "Winston McCarthy's "C'heer oh!" A word of 'appreciation is due to 'Miss A. Thomson, the accompanist, and aTsr> to the executive committee whose .arrangements for the function worked out most successfully.
