LAYING DOWN A LAWN.
When it is desired to form a la»D, fie ground should be trenched aa directed for the vegetable garden fny time during the autumn. If the i>iot can be prepared in March, a season it ay be gained by Bowing the iyusß seed during that month; the surface must 'be thoroughly pulverised <Jid trodden down firmly. The following is a good mixture, if procurable:— Crested Dog-tail, 21Fs; Feftuca tenuifolia, 41bs; Featuca duruscula, 21bs; Lolium tenuifolia perenne, 201bs; White clover ,21bs; Trifolium minor, Slbs; Poa Nemoralis and Sempervirens 41bs of eacß. This mixture will ->uffice for half an acre, and will form a very good lawn, and if kept cut close answers mo6t soils. Special mixtures for laying down lawns may <>lso be aad from any seedsman. Home of our native poas and other grasses woild answer admirably lor lawn purposes. If thG ground is of a retentive natare, sowing the seeds should be deferred til. 1 August. Commence to cut as soon as the machine will act. Some prefer the scythe for the first time o* catting. Roll previous to mowing; this will save the knives ot the moipjr. SEEDS REQUIRED TO SOW aN ACRE. darley, 2* to SJ buahels; beans, 2 to "2J bushels; bu.ckwheat, or blank, 1J bushels; cabbago (drumhead), to transplant, 1 lb; canary, 3 pkgs; ovrot in drills, 8 to 12 lbs; clover, 1,. to 17 lbs; furse or gorse, for feed, 20 to 24 : bs; do. for single-line fencing, to sow one anile, Bto 4 lbs; kohl- rabi (turniprooted cabbage), to transplant, I lb; do., drilled, 4 lbs; linseed, for ,flax, 2\ bushels; linseed, for seed, 1} busbals, lucerne, broadcast, 20 lbs; do., drilled, 15 lbs; mustard, white, 1 pkt; mangold wurtzcl, 5 lbs; oats, 3 to ,4 bushalp; parsnip, 10 lbs; rape or cole, i pit; rye, 2} to 8 bushels; rys grata (.if drilled, one-fourth lees), 3 to 3} Visbels; sainfoin, giant, 5 bushels; tares, winter, 2} bushels; do., spring, S to 2} bushels; trifoliam incarnatum, S4 lbs; turnip, 2 to 8 lbs; turnip stubble, 4 lbi; wheat. Si to 3} bushels.
