.Y.Z. FA KM Ellis' DISTRIBUTING COMPANY, LTD. WEEKLY REPORT. Wellington, Aug. 25. The potato market shows a slightly lirmer tendency and supplies appear to oi> rather short. Wheat has advanced in price and oats are it anything slightly firmer. Maize is unchanged. There has been a-further decline in the price of pollard and bran. There is an excellent demand for dressed pork and supplies are short, satisfactory prices living realised. J1 ouov is scarce anu keenly enquired for. Eggs have been arriving in large (|iiautitiet> 'and prices show a considerable drop during the past week. Linseed oil cake meal is li 'ing extensively used as a stock i'ood and an excellent demand exists. Vegetables.—The demand for cauliflowers continues; good and well packed lines are eagerly bought up at high in ices. Choice Savoy cabbage is meeting with steady demand at slightly reduced rates. There is a fair demand for pumpkins and marrows and choice table carrots and white turnips arc now brfnging fair prices. Lettuce is in short supply, and the demand good for choice lines. T'ai'snips are bringing rates. Swedes are slow. Spring onions and leeks are selling freely. A good demand exists lor celery. Fruit.—There is still a good demand for choice dessert and cooking apples, i and the demand exceeds the supply. Good lines of dessert pears are eager l> h night u]) at high rates. Walnuts are scarce. Maize— Local grown, 5s per bushel. Oats — Feed. 3s 8d per bushel. Russian Barley, Cape Seed—is 6d per bushel. Pollard - C 8 per ton. Rice Pollard £7 per ton: email lots £7 ss. Bran, £5 5s per ton. Linseed Oil ' Cake—Slabs, Meal and mils. £11 10s per ton of 2000!bs. 100's, 12s ; 50's, 6s 6d. This is the best and cheapest stock food procurable. Potatoes—Southern, £9 to £9 I0f». Christchurch, Aug. 24 It is now reported that another !»■ sacks of wheat is to be shipped nest month. This outlet has created a little more demand for wheat. Tuscan is somewhat firmer, and prime quality is worth up to 4s 7d at country stations.
Potatoes are firmer, as farmers prjiVr to wait for next month rather than to pell for less for immediate delivery. Consequently offerings are ar o limited. Although" sales were made this week at £6 l'Os at country stations the lowest price that will now hi< accepted for immediate delivery is £(i l-*s.
