Narrow Escape
OF NK'W PLYMOUTH EXPRESS. The New Plymouth express train from Wellington on Saturday morning ' (mi.vs the Post) met with ail accident ii little* to the north of Ohau railway station. The bogey wheels of the engine left the rails. Fortunately the driver applied the brakes promptly and (|llickly brought the train to a standstill thus preventing any damage being done. Considerable delay was caused in jotting tin* engine back to the rails and the train reached Otaki about an hour and a half late. i hb passengers on life train ummbered about 120. including 10 soldier* belonging to B Company, 17th Reinforcements. They presented a testimonial to Driver Pieman and Guard Mußurney tor their prompt aetion in pulling n)» the train, and thus averting a very serious accident. The testimonial also made .special reference to the help rendered by Mr Henderson, the local schoolmaster, in replacing the engine on the line.
