♦- LiSYJLV CLUB'S AN N UAL MlfliTliNG Levin Bowling Club held its annual general meeting last night, .Mr I l '. G. Hoc (president) in the chair. There was ii large attendance ot members. I lie iuinual report and balance-sheet. (published in The Chronicle, last week) were lead and adopted. , Mr J. Mclntyre, hon. secretary, read the following report oil the club's doings duj'iiig last .season In presenting tile report and balancesheet lor the season 1!)15-1(3, the committee congratulates the members 011 the most .sucotv^lul season, .socially find luianciallv. since the dub's inception. I l)o balance-sheet shows a revenue 'trom :i\ll sourcvis ol Cll 1 ()s ,'id, with an expenditure ol ill! lf>s 3d. leaving a small credit balance of CL> 4s. IT,is balance would have been a substantial one. but that "£2<> 17s (3d of the revenue was expended in paying off liabilities incurred during the previous season. .and if the £0 18s for the croquet ■shed (a non-recurring expenditure) and £7 l(fc, ( utstanding calls and subseriptios. be added to this the balance to credit would have been over £40. .Socially the season stood out prominently compared with its predecessors. All members entered the games and competitions with that zest and enthusiasm 'wluch should always characterize all keen bowlers, and not a little i>f the social success n'as dun to the members of the ("roquet Club wlto every Wednesday and Saturday provided afternoon tea. Foxton. Shannon and Otaki were represented 011 our opening day, October 20th, and we sent rinks to the opening days of the same club. A visit was received from Palincrston North ''Sausage" rink, which was duly returned. A rink accompanied by two others was sent to Ot'aTii for the "Kinneburg Feathers, and another (also accompanied by two others) to Palmerston for the Gold Stars. Neither of these units was successful in bringing home the coveter trophies. The club was represented at the Centre Tournament on New Year's Day and the following day by one rink, and was also represented at the annual pairs' tournament at Shannon when one pair (Cuirie and Ingrain) came ,i'rst, and another (Kirk and Pollock) came second. 111 all these visits the members speak highly of the hospitality extended to these and of the good fellowship existing between ourselves and the members of the neighbouring clubs. Club competitions were entered into with '-Treat zest, the lull rink competition for four gold medals providing the greatest amount of interest. Six rinks entered, and after each rink had played every other rink once. Ourrie's and "Kirk's bad an equal number of wins. In the play-off Ourrie'.s' rink proved superior and so won the trophies outright. Brown and Eccloton, at the commencement of the season. were tile holders of the Bowen Stars, hut lost them in their first game. There were 18 separate challenges during the season and they changed hands on several occasions, the present holders are Mclntyre and Kirk. For the President's Button there was not "tlie.interest. shown as in the other competitions : the present holder is l'yke. Recognizing -that competitions of the.se kinds add considerably to the 'interest in bowling. your committee hopes that trophies will again be arranged during the coming season. A gaslight patriotic tournament was held 011 March 2i)th and ;si)th. Strong committees from the bowling and croquet clubs were formed and their stieiiuous work brought the affa i • to a. most successful conclusion, the net result being 4'3.T Is (id. which was "handed over to the West Coast Farmers' Patriotic Fund. A suggestion that extra laud adjoining the green be purchased and separate croquet lawn be laid, was duly considered , by the finance committee who, while quite recognising the necessity for extending the grounds, came to the conclusion that the time was not opportune to increase the liabilities of the -pressent guarantors. A motion will be placed before you to-night a.s to the desirability ol" making the club a distinct body from the proprietary, the club to exercise control of the funds and pay a fixed rent to the proprietary. During the off season the green lias been top-dressed, re-sown, and basic ■ slug applied and everything points to it being in tip-top order for the opening day. The chairman commented 'that the balance-sheet land reports reflected great credit on the club, and he was pleased to find that such a marked degree of success had been experienced. , Four new members were elected: — Messrs Wells. Winchester. Williams and Dean, Officers for the ensuing year were elected fis follow President, Mr C. H. l'yke: vice-president, .Mr l l '. G. Hoe; secretary and treasurer. Ml" J. Mc In tyre (re-elected): delegate to Manawatu Centre. Mr Larkin (Palmerston North); match and tournament committee, Mess is Mclntyre, I'orteous, Currie: green committee, Messrs McInt'.vre. liccletou and F. O. Smith. Tlx- annual subscription was fixed at £:2 10s ; reducible to £2 2s if paid betore .'list -December, lf^lti. The Ladies' Croquet dub subscription was fixed at £1 Is per member, the extra charges incurred by the ladies last season to be excluded. Discussion took place as to trophic.? for competition. Messrs P.vke and Brown intimated that they would present medals for a championship singles competition ; -Mr Suhau (oil behalf "1 Speight and Co.). two gold medals for handicap pairs: and Mr Pink a trophy for second prize; Mr Roe. a medal for handicap singles; and the club (oui medals for a rink competition. Arrangements were lefl in the hands of the match committee. Mr Currie moved that a bowling club should be formed, quite apart from the proprietary of the green. He thought an entirely separate club would be better for members and proprietary alike. After a lengthy discussion, a committee was set up to meet the guarantors for the mortgage on the
green., ami ascertain on wlinl terms they will let the green to the -bowling oTTib. Messrs I'yke, 'hccleton, lUnrrie and Thomson were appointed to bo the committee. The fixing of ii 11 opening day inis loft, to the green coinniitteo, uliicli ill,so will have tlie duty of appointing n caretaker. Hie t• t• i iring president paid a tribute to tlie excellent manner in which the hon. secretary Imd Fulfilled liis duticis. also to Mesdainos Kirk, I'orteoii.s and iMx'lntyre i'or their assistance lo the club; and to the lad'es generally lor their provision of afternoon tea. .Mr l y vke returned thanks to the club for electing liiin to the presidency.
