Wilson ,is now with tjio .Vow Zealand Iron Ore Smoking and Manufacturing Company, has veto: ved an interesting account of successful experiments that have resulted in turning the Tavanaki into a profitable 'article of commerce. The fclag now can be made inefvactory, and the company's progress has been so satisfactory that a permanent plant for production of pig iron has ■been secured. These works will be capable of turning out 70 tons of pig iron per week within four months' time, and in seven months' time -their output capacity will be 200- tons per week. The consideration of the applications had consequently to be held over until this evening at 7 o'clock.

Colonel Moorhouse was president, and other members were Major Mollis, and Captains Short and Kaii-bairn. The decisions of the court which were confirmed by the commandant (Brigadier-General Robin) have now ueen announced. Six of the accused were acquitted.' on both charges, and the balance were found not guilty of desertion, but guilty of being Absent without Teave. Seven of those convicted were sentenced to seven days' detention, four to fourteen days' and one to twenty-eight days' detention The whole of the twelve men convicted were nlso ordered to forfeit their pay during 57 days. 'They had already been kept in detention. North Canterbury load bodies, eke those in. The new rudder, built of iroubark and a foot thick, to stand the pressure of ice, is now nearing completion ,«nd will soon be fitted to a new iroubark rudder-post by means of the new gudgeon and pintle mechanism. ihe sheathing of portion of the hull with iroubark planking 2i inches thick is well in hand. The senilis of the sheathing will be caulked similarly to the seams of the main planking underneath. The vessel is expected to be ready to leave the dock in about three weeks' time.
