♦ FURTHER REMITS. Wellingu- ■*, July 27. The .Farmers' Union Conference has adopted the following remits: That preferential trade within the Empire should be attained by progressive reduction of duties on good produced within the Empire. That with a view to the employment of our own people m the utilisttion of our own natural resources and the rendering of this Dominion more independent of the foreign manufacturer, the Government be requested to institute enquiries a.s to what further Industries or manufactures can be adyantageouelv introduced into New Zealand. That the Stallion Bill as drawn up b.y Dr. Heakes and prseented to Parliament be made law. jJv. Reakes, the Government Veterinarian, was present, and said that the Uiil- probably would be passed next"' year. That auctioneers be asked to note in their books ami in accounts rendered to buyers any guarantee given with stock sold by them. That the Government be requested to place no embargo oil the killing of female stock. That the tailing of lambs which have been imperfectly emasculated be made a breach of the Stock Act. This is not to apply to stud stock. A resolution wan passed that the Government should assume the ownership of ail meat immediately it is put into the freezer to obviate the chances of the meat being thrown the fanners' hands when the present arrangement terminates. It was also resolved to urge Parliament to pass legislation to prohibit shouting and to provide for the closing of liquor bars between the hours of 6 p.m. end 8 a.m. until the close of the war and for at least six months afterwards.
