LEVIN'S QUOTA TO THE 19th

REINFORCEMENTS

There wa.s a fair gathering of people in tlie Levin Town Hail last evening for the send-off. to this district's quota of men for the 19th Reinforcements. The Mayor. Mr C. Blenkhorn, prasidh ed. The musical program was much enjoyed and the contributors had to give ninny extra items. Miss Levett made a first appearance before a Levin audience, and her sweet singing soon placed her high in the estimation, of those present find she had to sing more than once. Another performer new to Levin was Mr G. Jones. His comic songs caused much merriment and he had to extend his original contribution to the evening's program. The performances of the old favourites: .Miss Remington, Miss Goldsmith and Mr Aitkon. and Master A. McLeavey were received with applause atnd as ur-aial they had to give many encores. The accompanists were Mrs Matthews. Miss Remington and. Miss McLeavey. The mayor, in saying farewell to tho departing men on behalf of the people of Levin and district, said that nothing gave him greater pleasure than to bo present at such functions, and he felt sure that all) present were glad to be there. The man who now were going Wl u great name to uphold aiiid he trusted that none would do anything to tarnish the lustre oi the great leputation of the men who liatf gone. They must not when away, forget those they had left behind. They would have many distractions but the thoughts of relatives and friends were with thorn and they should write home at every opportunity. He wished* them "God-speed" and a safe return. (Applause).. Foi the Levin Ladies' Patriotic Committee, Mrs Goldsmith presented each man with a Cardigan jacket. At the mayor's call three hearty cheers were given for the men, three tor the men who had returned and three for the ladie6. After refreshments had been handed round the hali was cleared for dancing. Miss Fink played excellent music for it. and Miss X. Smith played am extra. Mr W. Broughton was M.C. j The names of the men leaving with I the Tot!)
