According to a cable, no pen nad been provided when the moment came for the Hon. W. M._HugHeS to sign hi® name on the roll of Liverpool Free Men. A fountain pen was lent by a reporter. Several persons present ofi fered: to buji the pen, but the reporter I decided to keep it for himself. |__ "You desire." thoy said aamirmgly, "to keep it as a memento of the great occasion and the great man f'' The reporter yawned. "Not exactly," he answered. "Then," they said, "you do not wish people to think that you are veual, or that you would try to make money out of a aimpie act of courtesy f" The reporter yawned again. "Not that either." he said fearily. "But I've got four more jobs to attend after this confounded 'flummery is over, and: I can't cover them without a fountain pen, can IP"
