ST It EE I' COMMITTEE S REPORT. The -borough council's streets committee mot twice within the past fortnight and drew up the following report which was presented to the council on Momla-y night: — The committed recommend to the council that from the Ist April, IUIO, until further notice, the mnger be placed under the jurisdiction of the road overseer, and are ol opinion that more satisfactory rosuilts would be obtained if this recommendation should he agreed to . They recommend that from the Ist April', 19.10, his salary be £21 per aiumun, ant subject to one month's notice on either side. The committee recommends that ft water trough', built oi concrete, bo oreeted on the south side of Queen utreet botween the post oflice and the railway line, the trough to be six teet long. That Mr Williams be informed that the .streets and footpaths in the south end of the borough wilfl receive the attention of the council when necessary. The committee considered the proposal of the road overseer in connection with his reports oi the roads that should leeeive attention. After a personal inspection of the streets in the borough the committee recommends to the council that the following roads should ibe metaled with crushed atones:'—Queen-street, from railway crossing to Bartholomew road, 200 yards; Kawiu road, east of the railway nine3oyds; Osimlnridgc-strout, from Bath-Streeit to Miakoniako-rond, 20yds ; Oxford street, from Beach load to Kawiu road 210 yds; VVeraroa road from Queen-street to King's Drive, 10yds; Quecn-ntroet. from railway crossing to Bristol street, 30yds: • Qneenwobd road, 20yds; Devon street .west, 25yds; patching 100 yds; for winter uso, sundry 155 yds: totnVßooyds. Pit metal, -Bartholloiiiow road, hom Queen street to Rnwin road 400 yds: Queen-street in front oi snleyards 100 yds; Kawiu road and Tiro Tiro road corner 25yds; total 525 yds. That the necessary arrangements be made foi s the use of Mr T. Bevan's engine; and that the overseer engage a driver. That the culvert at the corner of Weraroa road and the King's Drive (on the north-west side) be extended . hy twelve feet, and that 18in. concrete pipes be used for this purpose. Malcolm's blacksmith shop to Exeter street he curbed a distance oi about three chains. The committee recommends that lor future use concrete |xipes he used for this class of work when of a permanent nature. It is recommended than an extra gate be placed at the pit for the con- , venience of crushing, and that the necessary plattorm bo erected. Jhia work to be done by the overseer and his men. That separate tenders be invited (1; for crushing 850 yards ot -metal at the Bartholomew load pit audi delivery oi the crushed metal on the road in accordance with tho whedulo; and (2) separate teuders be invitodi lor carting, etc:., 500 yards of uncruslled metal , front the Bartholomew i oad pit to the roads as scheduled in the specifications. That the streets committee open and accept tenders on the 13t(i March, 11)10 should any, in their opinion, prove suitable. v • With the exception of the recommendation regarding the water trough and that tenders be called tor crushing 850 yards of metall, the report was adopted. The .uayor gave lifs casting vote in its favour, and the amendment was carried.
