BROOME'S CASH SUPPLY STORE, LEVIN.

(Late HASWELL BROS.)

In order to remove some slight misunderstanding which seems to have taken place, we think it advisable to state our position clearly to the General Public of Levin and District. It has always been a sore point with people who are prepared to pay Cash for their Goods that they are usually unable to obtain any better terms than if they were getting the same goods on credit; and it is for the benefit of this class that we are running the Levin store on a Cash Basis only. It stands to reason that the Storekeeper who can can get the Cash for his goods is in a far better position to reduce his margin of profit than the Storekeeper who has to give extended credits, as the latter has to use a far greater capital in proportion, and has also to set a fair margin for bad debts and the general expenses of his business are also larger. We have made a fair calculation of the percentage of profit required to pay expenses and assure us of a fair return for our capital, and are fixing the prices on this basis—and we are prepared to cut lower still as soon as the public show their appreciation by increasing our turnover. We do not claim to be public philanthropists, as we expect a fair return for our labour, but we are prepared to give the Cash Buyer a fair return for his money. In order to avoid giving offence we wish it to be clearly understood that our Levin Store will only do business for prompt net cash. For the many who wish to do their business on the old lines our Weraroa Store will still cater, and we guarantee chat our prices and goods will stand comparison with any store in the district run on similar lines, but we wish it to be distinctly understood that each business is run on a separate footing, as much as if it were owned by a separate individual. Trusting this explanation will be entirely satisfactory. I remain, Yours faithfully, THOS. BROOME. Hovowhenua Chronicle Print, Levin,
