An Appeal

Dear Sir, —'My committee lias requested me to ask it your company will instruct your buyers during the. coming season to bring to the notice ol clients the aims and objects -of the, above fund. This fund is not connected with the Belgian Belief Fund which exists lor the purpose of relieving distress in Belgium. The Refugee Food. Fnmi is administered by a strong London committee, ot which .Mr Frank Kitchener is chairman, and its object is to look aftersucli Belgians in England who are utterly destitute and unable to either work or light, and aWo to "help the sick and wounded. Contributions of meat, butter, and choose have been coming in freely, but the Londion committee tind its most difficult to cope with the growing demand made ui)on it. The Xew Zealand Government have given free railage to all ports, nml we have authority fr.om the Imperial Government- to ship free to London all donations. A considerable quantity, of meat has already been M-nt and. the daiiv factories througli'int New Zealand are responding generously in the matter of butter and ehee.se.- Some companies have very kindly agreed to collect and hold any gifts that may be- made and advise us. when we will attend to the railing nndi ■shipping of same. .Second-class rantton is most suitable for Mir require-•nen-ts, and we would be grateful if the donors would allow us to retain the proceeds of the skins and fat. This fund is the sole support- of many hundreds of refugees, andi the numbers are increased daily. "We, therefore, invite your cooperation and assistance in procuring donations oi meat from your clients and would suggest that your buyers might .help us considerably in bringing t.lie matter before their farmer friends. The New Zealand ' committee of the Belgian Refugee Food Fund has its headquarters in Masterfoii and would -c most grate!ul for donations of meat to forward to London. .The class ol meat required is ewe mutton and cow beef. .Most of the freezing companies have kindly agreed to freeze and Uoldi any donation, however small, on our account free of charge, so that any odd line ol stock may be dealt with. Many of the butter and cheese factories and also private owners have generously supported the fund), but the limited supply of meat has caused the committee in- London a great deal of anxiety.
