Levin Tennis Club

A meeting of members of the Levin Tennis Club was held in "Williams's tea rooms last evening. Mr W. Hughes presided. Mr Hughes, in referring to the present position of the club, which had drifted into a rather unsatisfactory state, said that the younger members of the club had depended on the older members of the club to Keep it alive. This was not as it should he. Young players should take an active part in tlie organization work oi the club and tlie care of its property. He suggested that the club ,should arrange for the courts to be opened for play on at least one afternoon of each week, so that all members visiting the courts on that afternoon would be sure or a game. It would be a mistake to let tlie olub fall through.

It was decided to reduce the subscription for tlie renh.iiider of this season only by one-half: to be 10s for men and os for ladies. Mr \V. G. Clark was appointed seeictary and treasurer in place of Miss Stone resigned. v Wednesday afternoon was settled '..pon as a "tennis afternoon." At the same time the courts will be open to players on the other afternoons ot the week. The courts arid nets will be put m older and an eftort will be made tc provide afternoon tea on Wednesday afternoon. The club will be glad to receive the nominations of new members, and i. me young players nelp tne club it soon will regain the satisfactory position it field last year. There is not the slightest reason why the club should be allowed to lapse, and a little enthusiasm is all that is needed. It may ho thought by some that sport is out ot place at the present time, but it is i eeognised by the majority "that physical exercise and recreation is a necessity—witness the sports arranged at training camps for the soldiers. j MPMCaM—
