The almost entire absence of the raucous voice of the "spruiker" was a feature of yesterday's show, only two side shows being present,, in addition to one or two games, the proprietors 01 which drew moving verbal pictures of the simplicity oi getting rich ;tt their expense. To encourage the spirit of patriotic support of disabled soldiers, Messrs M. Ixorringe, ■). Davies, J. Kebbell and 1 Ivirkcaldie are handling back to the Horowlieuua. A. and V. Association the prize moneys won by them at yesterday's show. By tlie.se gifts, the Wounded .Soldiers' l''und (Levin Branch) will net ill the vicinity of £'30. It is hoped that this example will lie followed by other prize winners at the show. Through the. absence ol any exhibit from the Porirua Mental Hospital and ironi Mr J. C. Neil, who joined the Tunnelling Coi"ps, k tlie number of pigs shown yesterday was small, but the judge Mr Perrett. oi Sandon. was well satisfied with them saying that they were good. The exhibits were all from local 131-66616™. A word of commendation is due to the borough road overseer and his men for their thouglitfulness in thoroughly watering the road to the showgrounds early yesterday morning. Through this the dust nuisance was minimised greatly and things made much more pleasant than would otherwise have been the case The Levin Co-operative Dairy Company's Cup for the butter-fat competition, won last year by Mr E. M. Herrick, was won this year by Mr 11. L. Horn,- of Kuku. The cup was presented to tlie winner by the Prime Minister, who expressed the' pleasure it always gave him to present the cups won in competitions by farmers. The Prime Minister also referred to the loss sustained by Mr Horn in the loss of one of his two sons at the front (word of which was received the previous day) and lie said, he felt sure that Mr Horn had the sympathy of all. Mr W. M. Clark's silver cup presented for the winner of the greatest num tier (it points in the dairy cattle divis--011 at the show was won by Mr E. S. Lancaster with 18 points. Mr" P. E. Palmes was second with 12 points and Mr E. M. Herrick third with 11 points. The figures in the test were considered highly satisfactory. The testing this year, as last year, was carried, out at the Weraroa Experimental Farm, where the milk will be made into cheese for the association for sale on behalf of the Wounded vSoldiers' Fund. The cup was handed over to the winner hv the Prime Minister.
