Mr McKegg is a very popular man in Otaki and: should prove a very desirable acquisition to Shannon. I have been asked to contradict a rumour that has been going about to the effect that Mr Venn is ill in a private hospital in -Wellington. lam informed tlita the fact is that Mr Venn is staying with his sister in Wellington and is doing fairly well. The Belgian Relief Fund committee sent £50 to Wellington last month, and have now about £120 in hand. There have been several good burns ill ill - Scifert's bush lately, lighting up the hills at night and making much smoke by day. Mr Boultbee, our. chemist, had 1 the misfortune to cut his hand the other day, and will have to take a fortnight's rest. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for the carrying c.n of his business in the meantime. Mr Harry Robinson had the misfortune to meet with an accident on Satday afternoon. He was- haymaking ■or Mr Newton and: fell off a dray and injured himself. Dr Bryson was called in and attended to the sufferer. BOWLING ,\Nl> TEXXTS. On the bowling green on Wednosday afternoon the members were busy practising tor the tournament next Saturday. Considering tTie large number of entries received it was considered advisable to have rinks instead of pairs at the tourney, and as the proceeds wore to be for patriotic purposes it was resolved not to encroach on the funds of the Club in providing refreshments, but that the .refreshments should be provided: by members' lady triends. in a match for the Stansell Feathers Butt and Stephenson (skip) defeated (iardmer and Roach (skip) by 23 to 22. A rink game between Shnnldand, Mitchell. Fargher am? IVnowles (skip) was on by this rink (17 to I<>). Their op ponents were Hen sin an. Gibson, Galland. and Hennessy.
On the tenuis courts friendly games were played. Miss "Ryan provided afternoon tea for the visitors.
