"A shirker of the worst class" was Police-Sergeant Henry's description oj a young moan named Beaves, charged before the Court with failing to rendoi personal service. He mad been prosecuted ten times, and the officer pointed 011 that under tlie Defence Act lie could be deprived of Ins civil rights lor a period not exceeding ten years. He made application lor such a penalty. Tlie Bench inflicted a line of £3 and coats and deprived accused of all emi rights for five yeans. FIRE AT BULLS. Marton, Ths Day. Walker's stables at Bulls was destroyed by lire this morning. Nothing was saved. Three iiorses (including h stallion) and six dogs were burnt to death. Tho loss is £2000 above tlie insurances.
