WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
.borough Councils are empowered by Ihe Municipal Corporations Act to erect for the occupation of workers employed or resident in boroughs any buildings suitable for workers' dwellings, or may acquire buildings by purchase or otherwise, and render them suitable for the same purpose, the letting to be in the hands of the Council. By section 52 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1913, Councils are farther empowered in regard to workers' dwellings. The section provides that a Council may (1) let land to a worker for the purpose of erecting a worker's dwelling; (2) advance monoy to a worker to enable him to acquire land and build a worker's dwelling thereon; (3) sell to a worker iany separate worker's dwelling. Provision is made for the repayment of advances and the payment of advances and the payment uf purchase-money by instalments.
