Mil H. C. SHEAIIGOLD, S.P.Q.R. STORE, OHAU. Dear Sir, —Seeing the many advertisements Hor Cheap Cash Prices in the Horowhanua Chronicle,. I have been buying my groceries at those -stores of late, thinking that I was getting my goods cheaper than from your._etore, hot upon comparison I find I have "fallen in." I find that your prices vre just as cheap and in some cases cheaper than elsewhere, and taking into consideration the liberal discount you allow for Cash, your prices are those for the keen buyer and thrifty person. Why, the other week one of your customers got a large table lamp for nothing, by simply returning some cash coupons. In future you may rely on my Tegular custom. For coupled with your most reasonable prices, you are straightforward in dealing and cleanliness, which makes it a pleasure for one to deal with you. —Yours faithfully t Cut Prices For Cash. 1 r At T. ON ADVERTISING. The truo test of advertising ia tho olr'oet it produces. A business notice in a paper tliat is not opened regularly obviously is of les3 use than an adver* ti.seiiieiit in a paper that everyone " nads. The Horowhenua Daily Chron- ' it io is read by every settler in the diaLj ; " f A big proportion of the far- ■ tiurs suoscribe to it, and others see it at their neighbours' houses or tike creameries. The story of the transfer of its news items to tho steaks and chops is ben trovato but untrue, th» purveyors of joints and entrees ose plain paper, and preserve The Chronicle for future roforonce. The townspeople all take The Chronicle; most' of them from The Chrpniele runner; a doaen or so from their neighbours'' tront gates. To our view this practice is reprehensible, but advertisers in The' Chronicle gain extra publicity thereby, lor the regular subscribers always receive an extra copy.when the first one doirs not reach the proper people. The local news is The Ohronicle'3 speciality, •and the citizens and settlers naturally •seek this in the advertisements as well ' • as in the records of social and gene/a/. happenings. In the citySlnewspapers, with their eight or sixteon pages of minion type, an advertisement is bar- i ied; but in The Chronicle's four openfaced pages of leaded brevier the business announcements catch tho eye of all who open the paper. It pays to adverti.so: the proof is to be round in the various profitable and growing retail businesses of Levin. Many of The Chroniclo's best customers for advertising are spontaneous witnesses of this fact. Fair-priced articles of goiid quality are the bedrock of successful business, but the coping-utona of profit is publicity.
