Cheese for the Army
1 £1,U00,00U WORTH FROM NEW ZEALAND. The Rt. Hon. \Y. F. Massey informer a Post reported- this afternoon (Wednesday.) that •instructions had been forwarded from the Imperial authorities to the New Zealand Government to requisition liairly large quantities of cheese for Army purposes. The arrangements in this connection, lie added, would be similar to those who have operated so well in the export of "Imperial meat." Good prices would be paid, but not speculative It was estimated that the arrangement would involve the expenditure of something like £1,000,000. Details of tho scheme in regard to supply and transport are now being worked out. Mr Massey 'went 011 to say that at meetings held .at Hawera and Dunedin a lew weeks ago cheese makers expressed their willingness to assist the Imperial Government in securing supplies in New Zealand for the use of the troops, and it was resolved that nothing in the way of exploitation should be attempted or allowed.
