LEVIN 1 STOCK SALES
Messrs Abraham and Williams report having held their weekly sale at Lovm on Friday when good yardmgs'ol sheep and cattle were submitted to a fair attendance of buyers. Bidding was* keen throughout and especially so on tdie cattle lines of Avhioii we a had a total clearance under the hammer. Wo quote:—,.,
Sheep.—Fat ewes 355, Us; fat wethers, 37s 8d; a nice line or 200 hogget* 22s 9d; others 10s, 21s.
Cattle.—Heifers close to profit £6' /s Gd, £7 10s to £9; backward heifers £1 10s, £1 15e, to £5 8s; light fat cows £7 12s Gd, £7 15s to £8; forward cows £5 18s, £G 7s, £0 lOts; store cows £3 Us to £3 15s; yearling heifers £2 ss, £2 5s Gd; 18-months heifers (empty) £3 2s Gd to £3 7s; 2J and 3-year empty heifers £e 2e Gd.
Pigs.—The entry of pigs realized very high prices, selling as under: Weaners 17s, 17s 3d, 17s 6'd; light porkers 30s, 325, 355, 36h to £2 Is Gd; empty sows £2 3s, £2 7s Gd to £2 12s.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report having held their usual weekly sale at Levin on Wednesday, the 20th instant. when they offered a fair yarding <j* sheep and a heavy yarding of cattle. The yarding of sheep principally consisted of fats and keen competition took place for all lots offered. In cattle the quality of the yarding was only medium, hut a number oi buyers were present for empty cows and bullocks. Tho principal sales were as under:— Prime fat ewes 33s 9d, 355, 35s 2d; fat hoggets 20s id; ewes and la.mbs 28s 3d; forward empty cows £5 4s £5 i2s to £(i; store cows £3, L' 3 15s; medium 2-year-old steers £4; poor conditioned cows and calves £4; mixed yearlings 33s to £2; springing cows £5 to £6 10s.
At Pahautanui sale on 21st instant, Dalgety and Co., report having offered a fair yarding of sheep and a heavy yarding of cattle. This was the first sale of the season. Competition for sheep was exceptionally keen and male cattle were also enquired for. Female cattle were dull of sale and the majority of such line* were passed in. The sale all through" was, however, « good one, and in a number of instances owners' reserves on both" sheep and cattle wore exceeded. Our principal sales were as under: 2 and 4-tootli wethers 29s Id; medium 4-tooth wethers 2"6s 8d; 3-year-old steers £7 4s £1 lCs; empty 2-year-old licit ere £4 to £4 os; 15-month steers £% i2s 6d; 18nionfhs steers £3 17s 6"d : springing heifers £5 to £5 6's; yearling Ayrshire heifers £2 6a.
