DANNEVIRKE STOCK SALE. The New Zealand 1-ioan and Mercantile Agency Company report:—On Wednesday, 13tli inst., wo held a highly successful clearing sale at Maharahara on account of Messrs Meaehein Bros. The attendance of buyers was good and bidding throughout the sale was lairiy brisk, which resulted in an average sale of £7^7s 6d being obtained. This, considering that the herd consisted c mainly two-year-old heifers, is. we think, very satisfactory. SOUTHERN GRAIN AND PROMT K Christchiwch, Oct. 15. it is reported that there is an inquiry for wheat on tho'part ot southern ni'ilers and offers of Is 8d have been made. Except in one case, however, this price has been refused. The iact that southern buyers are in the market has also stimulated some local inquiry. Owing to the rise in potatoes in Melbourne and Sydney tho local market is firmer and prices now range from £7 5s to £7 10s at country stations.

No business of any consequence is passing in other lines of produce. The price of hams and bacon has advanced a halfpenny per lb. For new season's factory cheese BJd. and for new dairy cheese 7fd to 8d is being given for 'ocal consumption.

Wellington, October 10. Potatoes are again being exported <o Australia, and this coining as iL does al the season, and after export trade ho.s been carried 011 lor some inontTis, nas sharply advanced values. Phe market in the south is excited and values are very firm. A tew new potatoes are arriving from Auckland district. Good seed lines are still available. Pollard and bran have advanced, doubtless consequent on the artificial feeding ol stock in tlie dry southern areas. Local supplies ol prime chaff are getting short and southeren lirms are asking increased rates. Good quality lines are in fair demand and low prices quoted mostly represent inferior quality. Oats have weakened sliglitly. ll>ggs are selling at Is 2d. The trade in rape, tuinips, etc., is brisk. The selling prices for porkers keeps up Avell and the demand is decidedly good. We could do ■with larger consignments of hoth honey and beeswax. Large quantities ol spring cabbage continue lo arrive from Hutt and country districts, and values are ruling at last week's rates. Choice cauliflowers, which are m short suppiv are selling at high rates. Choice lettuce meets ready sale. There is good enquiry for swedes. Parsnips are meeting better sale. Choice table carrots and white turnips are arriving in larger quantities and selling at low rates. Celery, spring onions and leeks are rea • Using satisfactory prices.
