(By our Resident Representative). TENNIS CLUB. The annual meeting of the Shannon Tennis Club was held in the Mechanics' Institute 011' Monday evening. Mr j. Murray occupied the chair. The bal-ance-sheot, which was received and adopted showed a credit balance of over Jb'fy, which speaks well lor tlie success oi the club and tiie energy ol tlie secretary, Mr J. T. Bovis. it was decided to open the courts 011 October 13th, and that the subscription fee be JTI Is, as it was last year. A deputation from the bowlers was received, ami it was decided to carry 011 the arrangements for afternoon tea the same as last year. 'The club lias suffered a lass through several members leaving for the front and the secretary will be pleased to hear of intending members. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to TVTr J. T. Bovis for his past services as secretary, and all wished him a sale return from the war. MIRAMJI GU,\ CLUB. The Miranui Gun Club held a shoot 011 Saturday last. The following aro the scores:— ' Mr Hook's triphy.—Ailminsteir i, Sherman <3, C. Olson 10, U. Petersen ft), r. Olsen ( J, E. Warrington U, Burgess 8. In the shoot-olf tJ. Olsen won. Warrington (Jup.—ivilminster 13, Sherman 13, C. Olson 13, Petersen 14, Warrington 10, Burgess r-t, Berquast 12. In the shoot-off Olsen won. There were also a couple of sweepstakes, in the first of which Kilniiiister and Burgess tied for first place, and the second was won by Petersen. UOWLING AXD TENNIS. Ihcre was a goodly gathering of bowlers on the green in Stout-street >11 Wednesday afternoon for the opening ol the season. The weather was beautifully hue, and there were many visitors present from Wellington, Levin and Otaki, in addition to a good number of local players. The matches played nere between sides pickod by the president (Mr Galland) and the vicepresident (Mr Roach). There were four rinks. Pirst rink.—President's side: Kirk, Brown, lloe, Pyke (skip) 2<j, McDonald, Ling, Bills and Bright (slup) 26. Second rink—President's side;— Gardiner, Mitchell, Butt and Galland (skip) 20; vice-president's side: Ayre, .Dempster, Canning and Sathcrley (skip) 25. Third rink.—President's side: Allan, Cook, Bates and Noble (skip) 28; Booth, Bilderbeck, Hensman and Gunning (slap) 12. Poiiirth rink.—Gibson and Pargher 10, Sliankland and Roach 21. 'liie result was a tlraw eaeli side scoring 84. A pleasant innovation was the introduction of a little music. A piano was placed in front ol the pavilion where Mrs Sliankland favoured the company with several selections, assisted by Mr Graham with his violin. During an interval 31t Galland, prepresented Messrs; Roach and Hensman with tlie medals won last season. At the conclusion of the bowling Mr Roe, of Levin, and „ur Satherley, of Otaki, thanked tlie Shannon cluib for their hospitality. On the tenuis courts friendly games were played. Mr Thorburn, of the Post Office staff, has been appointed secretary in place ol Mr Bovis.
